James Caceres, MHC-LP

The therapeutic relationship is of the utmost importance throughout the course of psychotherapy. As such, James invites clients to form a collaborative and affirming alliance, while also striving to provide a space for empathy, honesty, compassion, and empowerment. This includes addressing your interpersonal mental health experiences through your own story. James believes in an integrative approach that helps identify your immediate needs and long-term goals. Through this eclectic, multicultural and social-justice informed practice, he will support you as progress through your therapeutic journey.

James utilizes a diverse theoretical approach that reflects aspects of relational therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), strengths-based and mindfulness practices. He will work with you in exploring issues related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, and trauma. James places heavy emphasis on understanding your narratives through the intersectionality of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities you value.

James holds a Master’s degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness with an Advanced Certificate in LGBT Health, Education, and Social Services at New York University, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Queens College. He is fluent in Spanish and welcomes anyone who may benefit from working with a bilingual therapist.
