Kate Flanders

As a former classroom educator and certified personal trainer, I hold a dual Master of Science degree in Special and General Education from the Bank Street School of Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and African Diaspora studies from Ithaca College.

I view therapy as a collaborative partnership rooted in empathy, unconditional positive regard and evidence-based practices. My approach is person-centered, as I believe each individual has the capacity to grow and implement positive change in their life. In recognition that each person’s experience is different, I aim to customize treatment to fit the unique needs of the person.

I have experience working with young children, adolescents, adults, and families from diverse cultural, socio-economic, religious and racial backgrounds, and of varying gender identities and sexual orientations. These experiences have informed my practice in co-constructing inclusive spaces, while developing empowering therapeutic relationships. With a background in education, I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and commit myself to continual personal and professional development. My objective is to support my clients in navigating life’s challenges and to help them to discover ways to lead more fulfilling and optimal lives.

Currently, I am in the last stages of completing an additional Masters of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling at Manhattan College.
