David Diaz, LMHC, MFT, CASAC-T


 

David believes that additional to the client-therapist relationship being crucial to positive changes, all relationships that are brought into the therapy room is a phenomenon ready for healing. David is passionate in listening to the life experiences that have evolved the client into being who they are today and what story they would like to have today and tomorrow. David uses the therapeutic process to explore factors that contribute to the “problem” which include, but are not limited to, family relationships/history, class, culture, sexual orientation, race, and/or gender. He continuously assesses the family system in order to collaborate with the individual, family or couple in unmasking the complex process of healing and reaching the goals of transformation.

David has the experience of working with clients in overcoming sexual abuse/intimate partner violence, intergenerational trauma and more. David enjoys in assisting individuals who are being challenged by depression and/or anxiety and how it plays in ones life. David creates a safe and non-judgemental environment in order to discuss taboo topics that is difficult to talk within couples or individuals in order to dismantle barriers and foster exploration on emotional and psychological difficulties. 

David is a bilingual therapist where he can provide therapy in English and Spanish.

With the collaboration of the client, couple or family, David is able to assist the growth and empowerment of already engrained resiliency of the individuals and join together to achieve a successful experience in the therapy process. Theoretical frameworks that David roots his session from are Narrative Therapy, psychodynamic, Imago Relationship Therapy, Cognitive Therapy,  Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Mindfulness, structural Family therapy and Trauma-informed therapy. David had desires to be trained in DBT and Sensorimotor/Somatic theory and more. 

David continued his work in a non-profit organization in Greenpoint Brooklyn providing therapy at a substance abuse outpatient treatment program for adolescents, young adults, adults and significant others. Additionally, David does therapeutic work at VIVE Family Program as a family coach. 

David is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and pursuing to be a Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) with OASAS. David received his Maser’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University And had completed an Advanced Certificate Program in Marriage and Family therapy (MFT) at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York.
